Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide

One of the most common ingredients found in acne treatments in general, benzoyl peroxide can literally be bought in its original form at your grocery store for a few bucks, or you can buy certain treatments that will cost you quite literally hundreds. It is cheap for them to buy, cheap for you to buy if you look around, and they can make a greater profit. It is one of only a few found both in prescriptions and over the counter products, and it has been shown to promote results in some.

Price: Varies

While you can find it anywhere, you might not want to find it anywhere. Benzoyl peroxide is an extremely irritating substance, even in the smaller proven amounts of 5%. Proven amounts range up to 10% because of the side effects. They have not tested larger amounts it seems. However, in those amounts, it still causes irritation, redness, inflammation, peeling, dermatitis, and other varying problems.

The bad news is that often times benzoyl peroxide does not actually work. It causes side effects without producing results, and some would say that it can even make some cases of acne worse in the grand scheme of things. One thing is for sure, should you stop using benzoyl peroxide you will experience a sudden and severe breakout that may take some time to appropriately deal with.

We would not recommend using benzoyl peroxide. It doesn’t have the right ingredients, the right amounts, or anything else. It just frustrates your efforts in general. It will not give you the results you are looking for, and it can make you dependent to some degree. However, there are plenty of other options available to you.
